Pregnancy Testing

female meeting with provider about pregnancy testUrine Pregnancy tests are available at the Health Department, by appointment with a Public Health Nurse, on Tuesdays (excluding holidays). Call the Health Department to schedule.

About the Test

Public Health Nurses can perform urine pregnancy testing at least 7-10 days after a missed menstrual period. Urine pregnancy testing measures human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced right after a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of a woman's uterus. In a normal pregnancy, hCG can be detected in urine and serum as early as 7 to 10 days after. A first morning urine sample is preferred since it generally contains the highest concentration of hCG however urine samples collected at any time of the day may be used.
