Bicycle Patrol is a great way for our officers to interact with the citizens of South Milwaukee as it increases our visibility and mobility in the community. Bicycle Patrol also provides the citizens of South Milwaukee with easier access to our officers and more opportunities for positive interaction. In 2018 the South Milwaukee Police Department revamped its Bicycle Patrol Unit, which is now comprised of several officers spanning all 3 shifts. While these officers do not exclusively ride bicycles, they are pedaling through the community whenever staffing and weather allow.
Cheetah Bike
The South Milwaukee Police Department (SMPD) is the first police department in Wisconsin to incorporate a Cheetah Bike (motorized bicycle) into our Bicycle Patrol Unit. The Cheetah Bike, which is locally manufactured, gives the bike patrol officer more versatility and ability to respond to calls for service in a timely manner. Next time you see one of our bicycle patrol officers on the Cheetah bike, feel free to approach them with questions about the bike. They will be happy to show you how the bike works and answer any of your questions.
